Business Bleating OK, Bereaved Tears Unacceptable

Hazards and TUC Risks editor Rory O'Neill's Face Book entry of 29th June makes interesting reading, and once again shows the complacency of the HSE. Interestingly it also shows the government policy is NOT in line with reducing deaths at work according to the HSE:

Rory O'NeillThe UK government's Health and Safety Executive routinely lists third party and often business oriented safety events on its website.

However, when asked to list a 'We didn't vote to die at work' campaign meeting in Manchester next month, it gave this response:

"We are not going to be able to list this event I'm afraid - to do so would effectively be using government resources (ie the HSE website) to campaign against government policy, which would be in breach of civil service propriety rules."

Hazards editor Rory O'Neill then made this request, to which he is awaiting a response:

"...on the same day, at the same time, in the same venue I will be running a meeting on this theme: ‘Why the government is right to listen to business and ignore the anti-enterprise harping of bereaved relatives.’

I believe this coincides entirely with the government’s policy and so it will be wholly proper and within civil service propriety rules for you to list this not to be missed event."

Rory asks readers this one question: What do you think HSE will say?
